Panama City: Nirvana for Water Sports Enthusiasts
—City to host three must-see events throughout first weekend in November—
PANAMA CITY, Fla., October 20, 2016 – Panama City, Florida will host three events over the course of the November 4th – 6th weekend that will make the city a must-visit destination for anyone harboring a passion for water pursuits.
“Surrounded by the calm waters of St. Andrews Bay and the many tidal tributaries that feed into it, water has shaped the history of Panama City,” shares Destination Panama City President and CEO Jennifer Vigil. “In addition to providing a livelihood for many citizens, water has also blessed them with countless hours of recreation, and being hospitable, it’s a resource we are eager to share with the visitors, whom we will offer a warm welcome. And we also have plenty
to offer those who are more interested in exploring on land than on the water.”
The fourth and final leg of the Emerald Coast Professional Redfish Series kicks off November 4. The nearly year-long competition builds to fevered pitch as teams in both the boat and kayak divisions square off to vie for the championship – and the prize money that comes with it. The weekend begins with a captain’s meeting and dinner before boats launch on Saturday and Sunday mornings from Panama City Marina on Harrison Avenue. Fishing enthusiasts will also delight in the fortunate coincidence that on Friday, November 4 the Costa Fly Fishing Film Tour will call on Panama City with a screening at the historic Martin Theatre, just steps away from the marina on Harrison Avenue. This year’s film will follow anglers as they pursue everything from pike in Saskatchewan to marlin off the coast of Virginia to brookies on Patagonia (to name a few), all on the fly. Tickets are $18, with doors opening at 6:30 and film beginning at 7:30. For more information and to purchase advanced tickets, visit flyfilmtour.tickefly.com
Finally, any boating enthusiast who appreciates the ultimate convergence of style and substance will not want to miss the 2nd Annual Carter Craft & Carter Boats Show hosted at Bay County Historical Society Museum. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Carter Craft created elegant leisure watercraft in Panama City, continuing a tradition of hand-crafted boat building dating back to the 19th century. The show will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of Carter Craft. The museum is located at 223 West Sixth Street. Visitors are welcome to the show on Saturday afternoon from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Admission is free, and donations to the museum are appreciated.
