Panama City to Host Inaugural Strummin’ Man Ukulele Festival
PANAMA CITY, Fla., June 7, 2017 – This fall Panama City will host the inaugural Strummin’ Man Ukulele Festival. This unconventional event, October 13 – 15, 2017, will feature renowned ukulele artists in concert, workshops, vendors and local and visitor ukulele groups including The Ukulele Orchestra of St. Andrews.
The Ukulele Orchestra of St. Andrews, a nonprofit organization started in 2014, is organizing the event. The group regularly performs concerts at Little Village in historic St. Andrews. The Ukulele Orchestra of St. Andrews has provided ukuleles, equipment and programs to a growing list of local Panama City schools and organizations to assist with music education.
“This event will showcase the thriving performing arts scene in Panama City,” says Destination Panama City President and CEO Jennifer Vigil. “The Ukulele Orchestra of St. Andrews gives back to our community by donating to arts programs in local schools. We hope everyone comes out and enjoys the cheerful sounds of ukulele music, because it’s for a good cause.”
The festival includes a performance by Lil’ Rev, an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and music-historian. He has written several ukulele instructional books, is a contributor for Ukulele Magazine, and tours nationally. Rachel Manke, one of the brightest stars in the ukulele universe, will also share her technique and beautiful singing voice with attendees. Other performers include Taimane and duo Sarah Maisel and Craig Chee.
The event will be held at the St. Andrews Marina, October 13 – 15, 2017. Festival hours are 5:00 – 10:00pm on Friday, 10:00am – 10:00pm on Saturday, and 10:00am – 4:00pm on Sunday.
Tickets are $15 per day, or $35 for a weekend pass. There is also a 3-day “All Access” pass for those who want to listen and take part in all workshops. Click here to purchase tickets and to learn more.
