Bring Back the Birds: Participants will use liquid acrylic to develop colorful patterns by pouring, spraying or spattering the medium over paper or canvas. Pigments of watercolor, acrylic or oil can them be painted over these patterns to create a habitat that invites the birds to come back.
With light comes color. Artists enhance that color. A second challenge will focus on the quality of light found only along Florida’s Panhandle – warm or playful or tender. Imagine brilliant backlight on a newly blooming flower. The subject of this painting must come from the heart of each participant as each sees beauty emerging in a different way.
No charge for artists recovering from Hurricane Michael / Everyone else Donations will be accepted

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE
In a tale that almost redefines sibling rivalry, faded actresses Blanche and 'Baby' Jane Hudson live together. Jane was by far the most famous when she performed with their father in vaudeville but as they got older, it was Blanche who became the finer actress, which Jane still resents. Blanche is now confined to a wheelchair and Jane is firmly in control. As Jane slowly loses her mind, she torments her sister going to greater extremes.

Details / Time / Venue - TBA

While many authors have called Florida home, some truly define our state’s literary heritage. Jeff Klinkenberg will discuss some of his favorite “Florida books”, working his way up from William Bartram in 1791 to Jack E. Davis in 2017 with a few favorite authors—Zora Neale Hurston and Patrick Smith—in between. Whether you’re a 5th generation Floridian or a transplant from Michigan, there’s something for everyone.

Jeff Klinkenberg is a longtime journalist at the Tampa Bay Times and in 2017, was bestowed with the Florida Folk Heritage Award.

Support for the Speaker Series is provided by a grant from the Florida Humanities Council with funds from the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs.
