Destination Panama City Celebrates New Film Honor’s Best
Film Chronicles the Story of Three-Time National Oyster Shucking Champion and Panama City Native Honor Allen
Panama City, FL – July 28, 2021 – The team at Destination Panama City will be celebrating a new documentary next week. The independent film, Honor’s Best, follows the story of Panama City native Honor Allen on his journey to becoming the youngest U.S. National Oyster Shucking Champion and ultimately competing on the international level.
The film chronicles Allen’s journey over a period of five years, beginning with his roots as an oyster shucker at Hunt’s Oyster Bar – one of Panama City’s most beloved restaurants and a stop on the Panama City Oyster Trail – and follows him through a whirlwind of national and international competitions. Along the way, Allen experiences a series of life setbacks and adversity, which fortuitously shape his priorities and career in the industry.
“We are thrilled that Honor’s Best is complete and that the world will learn more about Honor Allen, an outstanding individual and stellar ambassador for Panama City,” said Jennifer Vigil, president and CEO of Destination Panama City. “Through oyster shucking Honor has been able to bring awareness to the delicate ecology of our northwest Florida bay systems and really show the world the true character, charm, and resiliency of our people. We are always cheering him on, whether it’s in a shucking competition or in his newest venture, Fiddler’s Point Oyster Company, which sources farm raised oysters for many regional restaurants.”
Honor’s Best was co-directed by Casey Lock and Ross Zuchowski, and executive produced by Robin Malpass. Destination Panama City, Visit Panama City Beach, and Visit Florida provided support. A private screening of the film for cast and crewmembers is being held at the new Destination Panama City Visitor Center on Wednesday, August 4 before it joins the independent film festival circuit.
