Arts & Culture

Home to an eclectic mix of art and entertainment, Panama City is a creatively rich city where the arts aren’t just appreciated—they’re part of everyday life. Nestled along the bay, this coastal community draws inspiration from its natural beauty and channels it into a thriving visual and performing arts scene.

The vintage art deco Martin Theatre, originally built in 1936, stands as a cultural landmark in Downtown Panama City. Once a stop for classic Hollywood stars like Clark Gable and cowboy icon Bill Elliot, the theatre was lovingly restored in the 1990s and reopened with an added event space known as the Green Room. Today, the Martin Theater is currently undergoing a major renovation and is scheduled to reopen in 2026.

Across the street, the Panama City Center for the Arts serves as a hub for visual creativity. Offering rotating exhibits that include fine art, sculpture, photography, and ceramics, the Center also engages the community through workshops, lectures, and film screenings. Its exterior features one of the largest murals in the city—a striking array of Monarch butterflies—symbolizing Panama City’s transformation through art.

The Panama City Music Association (PCMA) is one of the region’s most enduring cultural institutions. For more than 75 years, PCMA has brought world-class vocalists, instrumentalists, and theatrical performances to Panama City. With a mission to promote and support the performing arts through affordable access and educational outreach, the association curates a concert season that includes opera, chamber music, Broadway-style productions, and more.

The Panama City Symphony brings the power and beauty of orchestral music to local audiences with a diverse repertoire ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary selections. The Symphony’s commitment to musical excellence is matched by its community engagement—offering youth programs, educational concerts, and collaborative performances that make classical music accessible and enjoyable for all.

The Gulf Jazz Society keeps the spirit of jazz alive and well in Panama City. Hosting regular performances featuring regional and national jazz artists, the Society celebrates everything from classic standards to experimental fusion. Their events often take place in intimate venues, creating the perfect setting for audiences to connect with the music and the musicians behind it.

The Panama City Ballet adds grace and artistry to the performing arts landscape with beautifully choreographed productions throughout the year. From seasonal classics like The Nutcracker to original contemporary pieces, the company showcases the talent of local dancers while fostering a deeper appreciation for ballet in the community. Their performances highlight both technical precision and emotional storytelling, captivating audiences of all ages.

Together, these organizations reflect the heart and soul of Panama City’s cultural identity. Whether you’re catching a symphony under the stars, discovering new artists in a gallery, or enjoying jazz in a cozy venue, you’ll find that the arts are alive and thriving—just like the city itself.
